Hi all,

I bought some new female guppies yesterday hoping to breed them with my males I already had. I noticed one was quite chubby. Upon researching i discovered she may already be pregnant, gravid spot, big belly. Now I have noticed 4 out of the 5 look like this with different levels of big bellies. Is it possible to buy pregnant fish??

Yes it is. It's common for them to come that way if LFS don't separate the males and females.

Yeah, agreed, very likely. Can't remember the statistic but it's a huge percentage of females who are pregnant when purchased. If you have 5 females look out for lots of fry! :)

Agreed, most females if they've been with males will be pregnant.
They can store sperm for a number of months so any subsequent fry won't necessarily be sired by your males

Thank you so much. We have one in a fry box with the separate bottom as she is quite big and I think 3 others are pregnant. They werr separate in the store but possibly not from breeder?
