I like the shrimp and would have some myself except for my semi aggressive community 'can you say lunch', what about a dojo loach they are quite hardy and very active, fun to watch. Be careful you can overstock your tank easily, remember to allow for growth of your additions. Scott

Dojo/weather loaches grow much too large for a 15 gallon, and shouldn't be kept singly. A better suggestion would be a group of 5 or of so khuli loaches, they are pretty small and quite neat looking.

at present the full stocking list is: 4 platties and 4 head and tail light tetras, and this saturday i'm planning to stick 4 guppies in there.

That will basicaly stock it up fully then. That rules out things like corys, loaches and ottos that like groups. Plecos will get too large as well.

So shrimp still are looking good and shouldn't end up being food for what you have in the tank. They tend to be small and don't need to be in groups which is a bonus for your heavily stocked tank.

you really really underestimate what can go in a 15 gallon. for a correct answer i would recommed cories, otos and blue rams.

Huh?
4 platies = 8"
4 head n' tail light tetras = 6"
4 guppies = 6"

So thats a total of 20 inches...now please explain to me how Jamesham is "underestimating" the stocking capactiy of the 15 gallon in question?
If anything, the tank would be overstocked. IMO thats too many fish in the middle/upper levels.

you might also want to try some kuhli loach they are a nicw suttle bottom feeder and also do some crazy things

a small group of them would fit nicely at the bottom eating all your leftovers. and a few shrimp wouldnt effect anything either.
