Hi all now i hope this is not too stupid a question but is it possible to use bottled water? just starting a new tropical aquarium but for many years have kept reptiles and amphibians and ive always used bottled water for them so was wondering if it was an option over tap?

it is.....but it will cost you a small fortune!

Why do you not want to use tap water?

I would say yes, but it's really not worth it, most tap water is sufficient enough and well yet to meet anyone who uses bottle water.

its not the intention it was just a passing thought, i just wondered if it was better water quality or not for tropical fish?

I've often thought about this, as it would be handy for me (tank is upstairs not near a water source) to have a bottle of water for top ups from evaporation. But then I thought about the mineral content if that would harm them, and I also thought about the leechates out of the plastics - they say not to drink bottled water if it's been somewhere really warm or in sunlight, or if the bottle is old (it has a best before date on the bottle, not because water goes off but because the plastic bottle releases stuff into the water)... so I don't know

forgive my lack of scientific jargon as to what comes out of the plastics... I got up late and had to rush to work and I'm here half asleep :zz

You don't get in trouble by your boss for doing this?

into trouble for doing what? being half asleep of posting on forums? I'm compiling spreadsheets, this is in the background and I type pretty fast so it only takes a wee while out of my time.... plus, boss isn't here as it's school holidays, and I get here early and finish late most days so they can cut me some slack hehe

Sweet. I would get into some trouble if I did that. :)
