Hi, I have had some good advice on another thread on how to get rid of snails. It would involve taking a lot of things out of the tank so I thought I might get 2 Botia Striata to deal with the problem. I will keep them after the snails have gone of course. My concern is will they attack my Common Pleco? I am worried they might suck his eyes out as they couldn't attack him otherwise, he is 11". My other fish are Mollies, Cardinal Tetras and a Golden Apple Snail. And lots of Molly fry of various sizes. Are they likely to attack the Apple Snail? As they only grow to 2.5" and my adult fish are all bigger than that (except the Cardinals but they will be roughly the same size eventually) I thought they might be peaceful. I have researched on Google and they are said to be peaceful community fish, unless someone knows otherwise......? Thanks. :)

Tank Juwel Rio 300 (65 UK Gals)

PH 7 - 7.5

B.striata are very peacefull and won't attack any fish let alone a heavily armoured one

I agree. Ive had mine for about 3 months now and they stay together and actually swim away from the other fish most of the time. They stay in their own area of the tank.

As for them attacking the apple snail, they might do that. They might just pick at it, but that can stress the snail and cause problems.

Thanks for replies. I will only think about getting the loaches if the snails get out of control (happened in first tank and it was a mess). I was concerned about the Pleco's eyes because that is the only place he is vulnerable. As he might live for 20 - 25 years I wanted to make sure. On the site I found on Google it said they are "usually" peaceful so I thought I would ask here and make sure! :)
