Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone could recommend me a few tropical freshwater aquarium books? I've been researching them on the internet (mainly this forum) but I'd also like to read a few good books.

Thanks for any help!

Phil

PS Available online would be nice so I could get them delivered to my work! :)

hi,
one of the first books i bought myself is, aquarium fish by dick mills, its like a guide to all fish, tropical cold and salt, its good because each fish has some info on them, a pic and their temperament, what they eat and what tank level they are at. www.dk.com.

Thanks. I seen this book when I went into the book shop in town so will probably get this one!

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a basic book that outlines basic things in an aquarium e.g. setting up, cycling, filters, testing water etc as i'm a newbie

Cheers for the reply,
Phil

I bought a couple of books from amazon a few months ago when I started reading up on the subject.

Both of them are quite good but in deifferent ways.

The first is called Setting up a Tropical Aquarium (I think - I'm at work at the moment) which has loads of pics and is a step by step book on setting up an aquarium. It has loads of info on plants as well. What I would say is that it was a good read, but I didn't follow the steps as outlined in the book 'cos i did other research which conflicted with a number of the points. Thats not a reason not to get it tho' - it was still very useful and shows in a very visual and easy to follow steps most of the issues involved in setting up an aquarium. It follows through from assembling and setting up a tank to weekly, monthly and longer mantenance issues & checks.

The second book is called Fishlopaedia - this is very much the opposite - hardly any pictures just lots of useful information on fish and aquaria. There are numerous chapters about fish health and behaviour which are fascinating. this is more of a reference book and will teach you a lot about your fish and their needs.

If you're interested leave a post here and I'll dig out the correct titles & authors.

I seem to recall that the fishlopaedia book was quite cheap from amazon.
