I returned from 10 days away visiting relatives last week to find my niece had indeed, as she said, kept all my fish alive  and I immediately gave them all a water change. One of the "pebbles" in the 29 gallon swam away. As cory eggs are caviar to everything in the big tank I was stunned. (yes, it's big for me, all you 75 gallon wonders ;) ) Now on careful investigation, I find TWO cory babies under the java moss. Neither are snack sized, so no need to emergency net them out to protect them. They come from two different batches because the older one is at least an inch and the smaller one 3/4 inch, or maybe my measurements are off, because the size difference is noticeable and that doesn't sound like much.

Anyways the older one was out today foraging in the tank with all the big boys. I think it was the scent of fresh peas that drew him. :hyper: He did just fine. I was sooo proud of him!

Just had to share. Now I'm going to make sure there's always a nice supply of river pebbles in that corner, clearly some eggs get dislodged and survive over there. Oh they're pepper corydoras and the babies coloring is beautiful, all spotted. I can't believe my luck! Just had to share, they are so miniature and soooo cute.

p.s. I keep trying to convince SnowyAngel it's due to my "excellent" fish keeping skills :D ....she's like "whatever, you had nothing to do with it", but she's also jealous. It is true I've got four very horny corys though.

Nice work, SnowyzMom!

It took a combination of good tank conditions and good luck for them to make it this far on their own. Now that they are coming out and have a chance to eat more "grown up" fare, they should start to grow faster too.

Young corys are so much fun to watch!

Thats really cool

I hope when my cories get big enough, they will breed. Cories are one of my most favorite fish, actually any catfish is B)

EDIT: you have any pictures of your cories? I would like to see them when they are not that old to make sure I know what they look like..
