Hey everyone.

Looking for a bit of a centrepiece for my tank, as at the moment I feel I'm lacking a little height in my aquascape.

Stumbled upon some fantastic Amano pictures online, creating an underwater Bonsai tree by taking a tree-ish piece of driftwood, and anchoring something like java moss to the 'branches'?

Assuming I can find a piece of Mopani that looks like a miniature tree (big assumption there!), would Java Moss be the best thing to use for this? Would it give the leaves and branches sufficient droop? Or is there another type of small plant variety I could use?

Ben.

my local pets at home sell 'bonsai trees'. cant remember what they use, but might be worth a look to save you some hassle.

Cheers guys for the replies!

I've read up on Bonsai, and it appears that using an actual one is definitely out.

Is there anywhere I can get information on the process of tying moss to driftwood?

I'm thinking a mixture of Weeping Moss and Flame Moss... What do you think? I like Christmas Moss, but it depends what I can get hold of.

Ben.

I've wanted to do this. But I'm not confident enough with it yet plus I have virtually no patience.

Weeping moss would be ideal..however flame moss wont give the correct look, it grows upwards and that's pretty much it lol...so wouldn't give a tree look at all. Fissidens is another nice moss but extremely slow growing

Tying mosses is quite easy, various ways to do it from hairnets to attach it to stones/rocks and usually fishing line or cotton just rapped around the wood and the tied off :good:
