my bolivians keep spitting out their food but i always seeing them nip offthe bottom not sure if there actually eating anything. ive tried flakes, and sinking pellets, and still getting the same result. what should i do?

As long as they are not losing weight don't worry. By nature they are sand sifters, and seem to sift through dry foods. I've watched mine do the exact same thing. They seem to like to relish their food, instead of just sucking it down.

I'd not worry either. I've seen many cichlids do this. I suspect it's a way of chewing up the food into smaller, more manageable parts.

haha DrRob i think your right. ive got a small chiclid that will swim around with a pellet shaking his head like a dog until a chunk tears off, then he goes chasing after the rest of it again! lol he is a riot to watch sometimes :)
