Hi yall
Would I be able to add a couple of Bolivian Rams to a 46 gallon tank with these fish
-Serpae tetra
-Glolights
-Tiger Barb

This is still in the planning stage- I only have 5 jewel tetraes in the 45 gall now.

Should be okay, but personally i'm not sure about the Tiger Barbs they may nip the other smaller tetras. Only thing is that you may not want to get any of the mixed sex, because from what I hear, they will get more aggresive when breeding.

Yeah I would do without the Tiger Barbs, they are schooling fish and need to be in groups or 5 or more, as do the Tetras. Also they will nip at ANYTHING that will not stand up to them.

You could have a 46 Gallon with the two Rams and one, maybe two schools of Tetras. Anymore than that would be pushing it, as far as schooling fish go. You could add some bottom feeders and a couple of small algae eaters instead.

Tiger barbs are not as bad as people think as long as you have more than 6 there fine. they then chase and play with each other.

Trust me I love the little things, but it all depends on what they're put in with. Of course if you have a tank with nothing but barbs, or some aggressive cichlids then they won't cause any problems. But I had a group of 6 of them and they still nipped three Pictus Cats to death. I can just see them nipping at the fins of the Rams.

As said, the barbs will destory the tetras. so id do this

6 Serpae tetra
6 Glolights
6 Jewel Tetras
2 Bolvian Rams
1 Bristlenose plec
5 Corys

that would be fine.

Discus, thats what I had initially suggested. Serpae and Jewel tetras are the same fish, just alternative names. And trust me, I won't put any of the little tetras in with the Serpaes cuz they are literally mini piranas. Also tiger barbs would be great tankmantes for the serpae(the opinioin of many forum users) because serpaes fin nip too.
So would this list work:
7 Serpae/Jewel Tetra
8 Tiger Barbs
6 Glolights - Are pretty fast fish
2 Bolivian Rams(not big fins)
3 Pleco
Also can I put any other cichlids other than the rams that would work?

I agree with some of the early statements i think you should probobly stay away from the tiger barbs in that tank . but the other fish should be ok together

What do you mean by 'big fins'? If you mean the tail rays and larger dorsal etc, then you are describing a strong healthy male!!.

As for not keeping mixed sexes, They may get aggressive during spawning but only to the point of chasing other fish away. They won't hurt the other fish unless they don't understand the underlying message which is:

'There may be eggs and then little babies here soon and we will not tolerate predators near them'

They will then probably eat the fry themselves anyway as they sometimes take a few spawns to get used to this.

Tetras and Barbs may try to nip the bolivians at the beginning but beleive me they will soon learn not too!!.

Great fish bolivians.

Andy
