Boita Compatibility

I dont know about fluffy black stuff, that's weird. But i haven't really heard anything or read up on hardwoods in tanks, that might be it. Was it dried out before you put it in the tank?

I know the feeling, trust me. My mom is the only one with a tank and she still gets sick of hearing about it lol. And my husband tunes out as soon as I start gabbing haha. he's probably gotten 20 texts this week about fish fry muahahaha....

Do you know what kind of wood, is it the mopani you've been wanting???

thank you thank you... yes Im pretty excited about the cory fry, I've heard how difficult it can be though, so Im trying not to get my hopes up.  It's also hard bc with the angels, they did all the work and I just observed, but with these guys, I feel like i have to keep checking and the eggs keep moving around in the breeder net bc it hangs at an angle.. I'll probably be crazy after all of this ;p

Yes its the mopani that I want. I took the oak out for now and am going to do a bunch of water changes to kinda get things freshened up. The wood smelled really bad so I think it was rotting.

My girlfriend just ignores me or changes the subject when I talk about it.. I think it just annoys her.. once in a while she comes down and looks at them and talks to them but other than that not too much. I have saved up 240 now from selling my fish tank and helping a friend replace an engine in his friends sons car. So I think a trip to lansing is due to get some new driftwood!! Might spend the rest on wood after I get my lids done.

Hows the cory fry doing? and the angel fry doing? Have been wondering the past couple days but have been busy working my tail off to afford a couple new pieces for my tank. :) Hope all is good.

Man, i love mopani wood. I wish I was better about placing things, bc I'd get some and squeeze it in somewhere :shifty:

Good job saving up that much, my fish budget is the big ZERO right now lol.

Sadly, the angel fry made it until the free swimming phase, then they weren't there in the morning.  I think the current from the outtake was too much for them bc my water level was a little low bc I wasn't able to do a wc bc they spawned on the day that I was going to do one. I'll just have to watch them more closely and when they're ready to spawn, I'll get a wc done and make sure the water is nice and high.

My cory fry didn't make it either.  The mesh breeder nets are a joke! The thing was so frustrating and cheap, and I'm not sure what happened, but I think my other fish sucked out the eggs or something lol. I have a hard plastic one that I will set up next time. Hopefully the angels just learn and do better each time, it's pretty sad seeing them upset and looking for the fry once they're gone, but they would be upset if I were to take out the fry too, so I just have to let it be and not loose sleep over fish fry lol.  Next time I'll be more prepared though ;)

I had something in my tank before too that smelled really bad when I took it out. I can't remember what it was but it was awful.

Oh, and well, my water stats have all been good for a while and my tank looks so much better, so on Friday I went and picked up 3 little somethings..... yoyo loaches :yahoo:  I love them!!  They're so funny! I expected them to take a week or so to adjust, but they just are lovin life, they're all over the place! 1 of them is actually pretty brave and gets right into the feeding frenzy and everything. I did however notice a nice big chewed off edge of my crispus leaf lol    I'll have to take a video later to show ya :)

why am i saying yoyo when they're polka dot loaches?  Whatta doof lol

What do you feed yours??? I think I've spoiled mine with frozen bloodworms lol...  they won't touch the veggie rounds and are just passing by the hikari bottom feeder rounds! I'm sure they would love the carnivore rounds, but I want to try and get some veggies to them so they'll leave my little crispus alone

Well its about time! Lol you have been wanting them for a long time now!! Mine eat everything from bloodworms to flake. They love the worms but its hard with the tigers.. Lolalgae and veggie wafers. Cucumber.. Anything really.

Got three small wood pieces for my rescape when i do i. :)

Sr about your fry too. :(

Well I got my driftwood in the tank and went and put a bunch of my plants in there to see how they do. Today is day two and I only have two plants out of the twenty I put in there floating. So far so good :) Maybe If i'm successful I will start a planted journal and we can go on from there.

I was wondering how angels would do in my tank? I have always really liked them and wanted them but they were too mean for my black ghost knife that I no longer have. They seem to get along well with the tigers in your tank greenmumma and I have seen them mixed before so I figured I would ask. I'm also thinking i'm gonna get a pictus catfish also. Wendy really liked them and i'm sure theres room down there for him also. I have a bunch of fish by numbers but the tank still seems sooo empty! :) I still have 160 left burning a hole in my pocket for the fish tank.

I got the new plexi glass lids cut and put in, But the heat from my lamps seems to have warped them. Guess thats what I get for saving 20$ and getting the thinner stuff. Dang it! That will be forty bucks down the drain. Well guess we will see what happens from here! maybe I will have to get some glass lids afterall :(

OK i went to petsmart since my last update. Bought some new plants. got some amazon compacta, amazon sword, cryptocoryne wendtii green, anubias nana, and anubias afzelli. I also picked up a couple new fish.. couldnt resist them. two bolivian rams. :) ok i'm off to bed. I'll get some pics and upload them tomorrow

Congrats on the new driftwood!! I completely understand how exciting that is :yahoo:.....

I have to admit, when I was reading about your plants I thought you were going to saying "and only 2 out of the 20 i put in are left"... hehehe.  My loaches have seemed to stop chewing holes in my swords so that's good. They love cucumber and so does my bn. I feel bad that it was only the first time I gave him one.

I love my bolivians!!! They are awesome fish!! I actually just lost my female last night, not sure what happened. All my water stats are great though.  I really think it was just her. She was always hiding from the second I brought her home and never had great coloring.  Really hoping it wasn't parasites :/ but Im not going to stress about that for now lol..... moving on...

Thats a big fat bummer about the warped lids.  I seem to always do things like that do, and end up doing and paying for things twice before I get it right, so I feel your pain on that one.  Do you buy the plants in the tubes at petsmart, or do they have them in a tank? My petsmart never has plants besides bamboo and mondo grass
no.gif
.. which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I spend enough on plants, that's for sure

My son saw a baby pictus in the store we've been going to, and couldn't resist. He even called the shop owner over by himself and asked "can you put him in a bag for me?!" lol. He's pretty awesome. If I had more ground room, I would get two more. I've read that they prefer to be in groups, and you get to see wrestling behavior which sounds pretty great.  I think they're a great fish, the best catfish to keep in my opinion bc they don't get too big and not aggressive. You don't have any tiny fish that you would have to worry about them eating once they get big, my other one never ate any of mine though.  I uploaded a video of the new baby junky to my planted journal, which I finally figured out how to put in my sig lol If you wanna take a peak ;)

My angels and tigers have always gotten along well.  I wouldn't add just one angel, definitely at least two.  My tigers have always been a little over curious at first, but I've found that angels can take care of themselves, and after a day of nosy tigers, they tell them how it is and how life around the tank is going to change

Why is fish money so easy to spend?! Mine disappears faster than anything ;)

I really like the rams. Came home today and they were both there to greet me at the face of the tank. More like a dog wagging its tail instead of the others all in a feeding frenzy.. lol I really like the pictus cats too. I really would like to get 3 or 4 of them to be honest. I think there is plenty of room in the rocks for them and the loaches, the clowns dig themselves under the bottom rocks as tight as they can get. its pretty funny. Sorry to hear about you losing one of yours. :( thats a bummer. I'm not sure on the sexes of mine yet. I am pretty sure that all my regular tigers are boys though. And my BN pleco is a boy. My clown pleco is a girl. Other than that i have nooooo ideas.. :)

I when I came home my big tank was almost a disaster. I put my other new lid in last night and thats the one that had to be cut out for the HOB filter, Well long story short there is an extra set of lights on that side of the tank and the lid bowed down far enough that there was a 6" circle of the lid in the water and the HOB was almost filling the top of the lid. That would have been a disaster. Completely. So theres fourty five bucks out the window... Son of a gun. I'm not sure what I want to do for lids now.. :(
I'm getting ready to upload some pics and stuff for a greenmumma. Will get some more later :)

Any ideas on sexing them greenmumma? I cant tell. the only pic I could get of them together you can see most of the one.. lol

I think I have a boy and a girl but i'm not really sure haha

Oh and the plants I got from petsmart were in the tubes. Not really the way I want to get them because they are grown out of water and die back but i'll deal with it since I dont have much choice! :)

It's very nice with the plants. Not afraid the clown loaches will eat them?

LOL yeah I am. But they are doing very well. All the plants that I put in there are all the pieces that they chewed off my original plants. I planted all the pieces in the qt tank so they could get some good roots and hopefully get settled before the clowns uproot them or eat them. I also went to the store and got some veggie waffers like you suggested and they seem to really really like those. Maybe that will keep the focus off of my plants if I feed them that also. :) But that was the reason I put the swords and stuff in the qt tank for now. Im sure they will start poking holes in them as soon as  I put them in there. :) I'm going to get a whole bunch of plants and put them all in there at the same time so that way it wont be just a couple plants for them to pick on. Maybe they will be better like that. Who knows! they were all out playing last night. That dont happen a lot. two of them are out all the time, the bigger ones like to stay under the rocks until the food comes. So I was pretty happy. :)

Have you ever used acrylic for your lids? I'm wondering if the .225 thickness would warp from the heat of my lamps? I dont want to go spend the money to figure it out. I'm not liking the glass lids since i'm clumsy and knock them over. That creates quite the mess. :(

I have a tank now that will be open top.  But I did some research on tank covers as I was considering it and I think yours warping is just normal for the material you used. You'd need glass instead. But I am in the same boat as you, I don't want glass because I'll surely brake it , so I decided open top instead, covered with floaters hopefully(if they grow) and I hope the fish won't commit suicides.
