Does anybody know if Boiling water would affect the waters ph or softness or hardness?. I use a little bit of boiling water to match the temp of the tank water while doing water changes. I do this is because i keep a couple of containers which I put water on it until the next water change. I still use a water conditioner just incase. I don't like raw tap water because if I don't age it, the water looks so blurry and not clear. I don't know if boiling water is a good idea since I want to keep everything stable.

Water has two types of hardness, known as tempory & perminant hardness.

Boiling will reduce/remove the temp hardness.

Boiling will also reduce chorine & flouride.

So is it bad that i add a little bit of boiled water cause I have very sensitive fish and I want to at least match the high temp on my tank and room temp for me right now is around 24-25 C i require 28 C. BTW if been doing my water change this way ever since the beginning and never had problems however this is my first time having some Discus and I just want to make sure....

As far as I am aware, boiling your water is better than adding hot tapwater.

Hot tapwater contains copper (or even lead in some parts of Britain) from the pipes.

Lead is poisonous to pretty much everything and copper may also hurt fish and will certainly hurt invertabrates such as shrimp, crabs & snails.

As long as you are using a plastic or steel kettle and not copper or aluminium, then you should be fine.

Does anyone else agree/disagree?

You mean take your aquarium water... boil it, let it cool and put it back?

Nonoooo!!LOL :D I normally aged my water by keeping a couple of buckets filled full and let it stand until the next WC. However while this bucket sit, it's temp is the same as the room temp which is way cooler than what I require on my tank so therefore I use a little bit of boiled water to try to match the temp of my tank which is set at 28 C. I hope you get what I mean :p .

There's no problem adding boiling water to the tank water, but don't add it straight to the tank with the fish in - you might have a nasty accident on your hands, rather put a little in the water in the buckets before you put it in the tank.

Unless you have a lot of nasty things in your tap water, then I don't see any real need to boil it. Warming it to tank temp is good -glad to see you do it :) -, but the only thing that needs removed from most water systems is chlorine.

I don't add too much maybe 2 cups per 2 gallon of water and then I add dechlorinator and slowly transfer the fresh water to the tank. I'm glad to hear that it won't affect my water parameters as i'm trying to keep everything stable...Thanks for all the replies guys  :D
