I have had problems with PH Levels dropping through the floor. We removed the bogwood and within 2 hours the PH rose from 6.8 to 7. This piece is some years old and came with the tank. I know it's probably a stupid thing to ask but could this be a reason my PH keeps going below 6. :dunno:

Bogwood contains tannins. The tannins leach out into the water and lower ph. Its common.

Its a 125 Gallon Tank (UK). 5ftx2ftx2ft. With a Eheim 2217 and a Eheim 2250 at each end. A 300w one end and a 200w Heater the other. Several Red Rocks look like bricks to me. 3 Marble effect rocks. One Very large Rock which we were told would buffer the Hardness of the water 18" long x 6" Deep x 10" High. One Plant with large/wide elongated leaves. One large Silver Dollar, One small Bala Shark, 6 Sailfin Mollies, 2 3" Plecos, 8 Peppered Corys, 1 Med and 1 small Angel fish, 13 Neon Tetra and 1 Cardinal Tetra, 4 Black Widows. My husband decided he wanted a fish tank and bought this setup secondhand but refused to allow things to run for more than a week before deciding to add the LFS to our tank. He removed the Bogwood at 5pm and the PH is stable at 6.8 at the moment. Feeding once daily but have not fed since this morning.

Levels 9pm tonight PH-6.8, NO2-0.25ppm, NO3-5ppm, Ammonia 1.0ppm. :look:

Surprisingly we have only lost 2 lg Bala Shark, 3 sml Silver Dollar (previously isolated due to swimbladder), and 1 sml Bala Shark. All died after PH dropped to 4.5 from 6 overnight about a week ago.

Have bought a sml 20 gal tank to put Tetra's and Molly fry (presently in a 2 gal isolation tank) but intend to do a fishless cycle with ammonia before moving them. LFS said not to add ammonia as it is in the tap safe and is unnecessary. Our Tap water does have ammonia at 0.25ppm. Have discussed this with husband but he tells me I'm being stupid as the LFS has said to cycle tank for 2 to 3 weeks without fish and then just add them a few at a time without adding anything to the tank ecxept Tap Safe and running the filters. :dunno:

check ur rocks by puttin vinagar on them if the vinager bubbles take the rocks out immediatly thats wots killin ur ph

allso check ur water straight from the tap to see wots the ph is
if it between 6 and 8 its something in ur tank

av a think back wot u added to ur tank before ur probs started

My tap PH is 7.8, Nitrates 40ppm, Nitrites 0.25ppm, Ammonia 0.25.

All rocks were in the tank (apart from the large) one before the PH Crisis begun. Only added the large one 2 days ago. Added some small sea shells 4 days ago. PH crisis began on 23 Jan. Tank setup on 3 Jan with existing Media and equipment which it had been running with. Took out Carbon and replaced Media in 2217 on 28 Jan. Have tested the rocks with vinegar but they are not bubbling.
