The wood has started to get white blobs on it, they are small but i was wondering if this is normal?

I had that happen to mine & had a little fur growing on little bits. After 6 weeks its all gone now. If I were you, give it time to settle, then should be ok

I took it out and re did the tank last week and i put it back in and its ok so far. Alex Lark, i will PM you in a few weeks and let you know how its doing.

when i set up my freshi tank i just left the bogwood for like 4 hours in boiling water with plants in the water aswell. never had brown water or anything

Put the wood in the tank part of your toilet. Leave it there for a few weeks. You'd get regular water changes that way...
