Bogwood Pre-Soaked?

Just been to my LFS for a small peice of Bogwood, and the lad there (who I know) let me have it for free because I moaned about the price of it haha .

He said it all arrives pre-soaked, so they stick it straight in to their tanks.

Just got it home, and when you touch it your fingers go black from what feels like soil should I boil it first?

Not only was it free, it's coverd in moss

Think I should take the moss off, boil it (for how long?) then stick the moss back on befor putting it into my shrimp tank?

if the moss is attached then it will be killed when boiled but if the wood is covered in soil then i would want it clean.....

if the moss is long enough you could trim it and reattach it after cleaning i guess

I've took my moss off, it was all over the wood but not rooted in. It was just tied on with elastic bands!

Boiling it now... how long should I do this for? The water in the pan has gone a little brown, not much.

Should I re-attach the moss using black cotton? Don't think I have any fishing line.. and I don't want to use these white elastic bands

Yea black cotton is the best thing to use because it will disolve in the water eventually, so you dont even have to take it out.

i would boil it a couple of times then give it a blast under the tap to remove any soil etc thats left on. cotton is fine and obviously a dark colour cant be seen as easy

I'm on the third boil at the moment ... water keeps going slightly brown / tea colour.

I'll keep going untill it's hardly noticable. Each time I finish boiling it I blast it under the tap then re-boil.

Got my moss and black cotton at the ready! Hopfuly the shrimp will like their new feature

leave it in a bucket of water for a few days
put a rock to weigh it down
it will stop ure tank water going brown

put some carbon in ur filter throw it in leaching will be gone in a week .
