First of all, what is bogwood? I keep seeing people mention it and I'm curious as to what it is.

I've recently (yesterday) added live plants to my aquarium! Yay! So far, I like them a lot. I got some Elodea/Anachrus. I have five "stems" in my 10 gallon tank, three or four in my five gallon tank, one each in the little Betta tanks, and two in my one gallon. Can I have more Elodea in each of them or would you recommend other plant types? If so, what types?

Thank you!

Hi, Bogwood is the name given to pieces of trunk or root which have been preserved by organic acids in peat bogs: this makes bogwood very different from drift wood, or dead wood found in a forest. Bogwood can be bought in aquarium shops or sometimes obtained from people who have found it themselves in its natural environment. Before any piece of bogwood is used in a tank it should be thoroughly soaked so that it becomes completely waterlogged: this prevents its rising or floating in the aquarium. The soft parts of the wood should be removed and the hard core thoroughly scrubbed and cleaned before being put in the aquarium. (reprinted from the aquabotanic site)
