I bought two of these fish about a week and a half ago. I've been feeding them flakes and freeze-dried blood worms. They've been healthy and happy with each other until i about a 2 hours ago :( . About a hour after i fed them today the bigger one started acting strange. It started swimming very eraticaly doing lots of very fast and tight circles. The smaller one was following it very close, then the bigger one stoped at one end of the tank. Now the small one keeps coming over and flares at it, up to the point where it will attempt to bite the big one :( . They both have calmed down a little now, but the big one is still swimming eraticaly every now and then. It also stays at the end of the tank :/. Is this behavior normal? Could the big one have something stuck in it's throat?

It's a couple hours later now and the tank lights are off. He will stay close to the bottom, but when he tries to swim it's still very eratic :( . Is it possible he swallowed some air or something else?

I'm sorry to hear your fish aren't doing well. I see nobody has answered your post and it has been a few days. It sounds like your larger fish must have some sort of infection. I'm not good at diagnosing these things. Does anyone else know?

I'm not good at diagnosing either, but do know that rainbow fish are a schooling fish. You really don't want to put less than 4 in there and at least 6 is better.

Good luck with it.

I'm not sure about the being sick, or swallowing something.
But I'll agree they are happier with others. The first time I saw one, was in a doctor's office aquarium...it was a good 4 inches big! The only one, with a molly and something else. Whoever put that tank together, obviously knows nuttin'. But anyhoo!

I only have 2 Rainbows, at the moment. Would like to get more, but there's only one shop that has them, and the last couple times I went, the rainbow selection had finrot >_<
Right now I have them in a 50 gallon tank, with my Cichlids. I think they're doing okay socially. The rainbows keep to themselves, mostly, but at least they're not totally alone.
