Ok I have algae growing on the tank and my two BN's arent making a dent in it at all! They did start but all of a sudden it seems like they have stopped and the glass is going green! Any idea as to why they arent clearing the algae? I do regular water changes on the tank as in two to three times a week and it contains 1 male betta, 5 emerald eye rasboras 2 amano shrimps and now both my BN's originally I had just one in but I thought the other one might have appreciated a bit more as my other tank is clear of algae at the moment! I thought BN's were supposed to be great at clearing algae? Or do I just have two lazy BN's? I've even stopped putting in cucumber for them to try to encourage them to clear it but its not working!

Some really are lazy I'm afaid - especially when there's an abundance for nice yummy food. They can' just laze around and wait for the food to come there way! How big are they at the moment ?

They are nearly 2 inches now! Cant believe I have lazy ones! Might move them back to the other tank and get a couple of ottos if they dont start picking their act up! Lazy little tykes

If the algae is the Green Spot type then its too much effort for the bristlenose cats to try and eat it and if they have other alternatives available they WILL go for them.

If you have a reflector, try to use it in a way that your glass does not get light. I have my reflectors in th Juwel tank in the same way and I dont get any algae on the front/back glass but there is obviousy some algae on decore and rocks.

I have brown spot and hair algae mine is around the same size and it doesn't seem to want to go anywere near it.

You may find the often water changes are actually fueling the algae and the poor little buggers cant keep up.
