I think I'm gonna kick myself..... Apart my my Choc Gouramis, the second "most wanted" fish (By myself) is BN's......

Now one pet store which I stopped at far, far from here, had some tiny fish about 1" long which the pet shop owner could not tell me (without doubt) that they are BN's.... We both eventually concluded that they are probably normal Plecos, so I did not buy any as I'm already overstocked on those.....

Now in afterthought, I'm beginning to think (more & more) that they could have been BN's and I should've bought them..... What are the obvious telltale differences between 1" BN's and Plecos...... (and off course, my bad old age eyesight - even with glasses on- does not really help if it is not an obvious difference)

I have some BN's if you want them?

I have some that are 1' and some heading towards 2-3',

If you send me all the stuff to post and cover the postage costs your welcome to them.

My BN Pair have had 3 batches recently, they are stunning colours, very bright yellowish dots.

I have already sent some to a member here so if you wish you can confrim they are healthy.

They need to go as my RIO 240 is getting a little overstocked with baby BN'S!!!

Bugger your in South Africa!!!

Forget that then......

Waz just going to say..... Thanks for the offer, but I'm more than 2000 miles away.... Will however appreciate if you could post a pic or two of a little BN, so that I can (more or less) work out what to look for when I come accross the little imps again and not mistake them for common Plecos.....

Thats a piccie of a very small BN baby, not sure of sex.

Is the picture showing? Its not for me, but i'm at work......

Yes... It is showing, but not really showing anything different to a baby Pleco..... It could as well be??... What do I have to look for??

most baby common BN's m8 will have a white edge 2 there tail commons/gibby plecs dont have this thats 1 way of telling the difference... the other is that BN's usually have little off whites dots/specs all over there body

I vaguely remember something about movement.... (had some somewhere in the early 80's)......

Is it not that the BNs' have a short jerky kind of movement and the plecos moves smoothly and longer distances....

A hard to describe concept. but if it is relevant, I'm sure anyone who has seen both, will know what I'm talking about....

movement has nothing to do with it.

A few points - there are over 400 different Plecs... I guess your comparing Bristlenoses (one of the 400+ types) with "commons" and/or sailfin plecs

In which case the main difference will be the body shape - both Sail fins and "commons" have angular bodies - bristlenoses are more round edged and smooth - even when small.

the picture above is a typical BN.

Have a look at the links below for bore pictures of "common" and Sailfin plecs (both of these two are going to get to 18" +)

"Common" (PlanetCatfish)

Sailfin (PlanetCatfish)
