Hello all I am new to the forum and have an interesting question. My female Blue Ram, which ive had for only two weeks, has cleared the gravel off the slate on my driftwood and has now been laying eggs for about the last ten minutes. I find this interesting becuase there are no other rams in the tank. What would make her lay eggs? Also she is very small so I assumed her to be a juvenile.. do they sometimes lay a batch of eggs when they reach maturity, even if no male is around?

anyways i hope there are some expert out there who can explain just why my ram is laying eggs with no males in the tank..

tight lines,

jesse

Actually nothing is wrong sometimes fish just lay eggs. However they are not fertile or at least there is a very small chance that somehow she mated in the pet store/ or with breeder. But most often nothing will happen if nothing happens then take the eggs out if you see activity in the eggs then put them in a net breeder with female and once the eggs hatch take the female out of the breeder. Simple as that!

Well the answer you are looking for is simple their is no male but she is mature and producing eggs. Many female fish will produce eggs without a male when their is an excess of food and the temperature and conditions are right. ONLY live-bearing Fish can mate in a store then lay the developed fry in the aquarium. German Blue rams are not live-bearers so their is no chance for eggs to develop. German Rams will spawn at 1.5" size. which is mature and reach a max of 2" females and 2.5" males.

Your female will spawn probably once a month on normal grade food, On high quality with frozen mixed in she can spawn in a matter of 14 days back to back. she will lay up to 400 eggs when fully grown. 200 normally.
