Now she is pretty big and ive looked for the gravid i have seperated her as another fish in the tank kept bashing her stomach (which i think is a mollie) even now that i have seperated her in a floating net the fish still hovers around her all the time. Here are a few pics including the fish that keep bashing her hope you can help.

what can i do with her as the other fish bashers her quite often it doesnt leave her alone. How long are they pregnant for and how long does it take??

the other fish bash because the want her to have the babies so they can eat them.they are pregnant for about 4-6wks any idea how long shes pregnant?

I havent got a clue to be honest i've only really noticed in the last 2 weeks but i dont want to keep her in the net forever, she seems happy enough at the min but i dont know what to do

ok well if shes happy enough leave her there if you want she looks fairly big so i wouldn't think she has long left to go.

Hi,

I have the same problem. I have a sunset platy who is about to burst and she is constantly bugged by her male suitor (also a sunset and I think the daddy). He too keeps nudging her and I have been told, as Karen 84 says, that he is trying to get her to give birth so he can have a quick snack.

I personally don't like breeder nets/traps as it can stress the fish out almost as much as the constant attention. So I went out and bought a 5g fry tank. As soon as the new filter is matured abit (got it up an running in my larger tank at mo) then she can go in there for a rest and to have her babies in peace.

I would keep a close eye on her and perhaps invest in another tank for her.

Good luck with the fry.

Breeding tanks/ fry tanks are best for this. they are overall less stressful on the fish. by the way, she looks about 2 weeks along give or take a few days. the last pic has a good pic of her gravid spot, you can slightly see the babies, but still a lot of growing time left. :D

wow!!I would say she's really pregnant my platy is about give birth but her stomache is'nt as big as your platy's stomache beautiful fish by the way.

Then your platy is probably less than 2 weeks pregnant Christian. She also may just have eggs that are not fertilized. All females with eggs have a gravid spot, That does not mean they are fetilized though.

Hi,
I have the same prob. I have a sunset female that is pregnant and looks just like that one in the picture but orange and yellow. I put her in a breeder, but i believe it is stressing her out! she flips out when i turn the light on, so i've kept it off. But last night she had this clear white thing come out and it's just laying there it doesn't look like anything? Do you think it was stillborn? Do you think she is going to have any babies or not? Please help, this is my first time doing this. how long should i keep her in that breeder tank?

Breeders can cause lots of stress, but breeder tanks are the best. As you know, stress can cause abortion. That definately could be her fry that she aborted. I would recommend to keep an eye on her for about, lets say, keep her in there until Monday. If she is still big, leave her in their a few more days.
