I just went to the petstore and got a blue mystery snail. I saw that some of them had bodies that were completely black and most of them had dark blue bodies with orange rings. Why is that? This is because I wanted one with blue but I also wanted the most active one, I got the most active one, but he has a black body.

Apple snails (what's usually sold as mystery snail, at least around here) vary a lot, but the color in the name comes from the shell. The bodies vary quite a bit that I've seen - my blue snail has a black body with red speckles, and some of the others in his tank were all black. I didn't see any with blue bodies, though.

I think in blue snails the color is from the body showing through the shell.

I lost the link to the snail color page, so I can't check it. @.@

I have some dojo loaches, will the snail be ok? He is one inch in diameter.

yes it do with the natural body colour, dark or white, and the shell colour, dark body and clear shell = blue

clear + clear = ivory and so on, cant remember all the colours i think theres info on www.applesnail.net where i used to be a mod

no i think once the loach grow a bit the snails are doomed, you cant keep any snails with any loaches. di

How big do the dojos have to be to eat my one inch snail? I used to have a snail that was 1 cm in diameter and my dojos never bothered it.

My dojos are doing fine with the snail, they thinks its a rock...

It is a blue mystery snail.
