last weekend i went to my lfs with my grandson and he was mesmerised with the blue lobsters that were in a tank they were about 6cms in length and seemed very lively what size tank would you need to keep them, and are they other fish friendly?
regards kevin.

as far as i know they will catch and kill small fish
im not sure about what tank size they need

i used to have 1, in a juwel 120
and i would say no less than that, cause he used to love flying about on the bottom

he seemed happy enough, but yes he will catch and eat small & medium size'd fish & annoys the living hell outta all the bottom dwellers!!!!!

but sadly 1 morning he was upside down dead, no idea why, he was eating fine, nothing in water just a mystery!!!!!!

would defintly have another though if i got another tank, cause at the minute in love with my sailfins and they live on bottom, so wouldnt go together!!!

Hi i used to have on b4 but now ive got tropicals and let me tall you they get huge i ended up giving mine away to a friend with a bigger tank because it was so big. But your right they do look great but remember let the buyer beware. You buy it make sure you are ready for it and your tank is big enough.

well you will need a tank of 30 + gallons for Redclaw cray, thats what it is, they grow with devestating speed. mine went from 1.5 inches to 6 in 7 or so months, they can grow to 8 inches or more, and thats just nose to tail. never mind the claws and antenna. they like water with a ph of 7.5-8.5, need temp of between 74 and 82. they love to escape, so a well sealed lid is a must. they need well oxygenated water, they also like to play in the bubbles from an air stone. hides, cave and any other form of shelter are a real must. crayfish cast their shell and need somewhere to hide, but live in caves or under things. food is simple anything, but they lean towards veggies. fish flake, fresh peas, fresh cucumber, catfish, crab food and fresh chicken go down well. they are opertunistic feeders, so also work well as a cleanup crew. this will include any ,very, sick or dead fish. some can and do catch and eat fish, but this is by no means the norm. Redclaw are amongst the most peaceful of cray speicese, but as with humans the are all different. mine has only ever nipped one fin, and lives in a thriving community with plecos, corys, pictus cat( that actually sleeps and rests right infront of the crays den) firemouth, acara. rts, cae, you see what i mean. but i know of one that will kill any fish on sight!

even a single cray will need a mature, or atleast fully cycled tank, and if you wish to keep it in the community, it is best to keep it till it matures, about 7 months for a redclaw, in a tank on its own. same goes for the fish you keep with it. they need to be mature, or atleast from a mature tank.

they are acrobatic, fearless, vastly entertaining and totaly addictive!!!!

not met many people who wish they hadnt got one. though some have bad problems through ignoring some or all of the above advice. chack you pms

no he doesn't!!! apart from any thing else, Cherax quadricarinatus Blue lobster or Australian redclaw.
is the only legal cray you can keep in the UK!! the cray you link is an american cray. first off it coldwater well coolwater not tropical, many american cray carry cray fish plague. this is not true of the redclaw. they are far more aggressive, than redclaw. and in most cases are a really bad choice for a community cray.

im wondering why you thought we needed help on the id? i feel more of us who keep cray should post. they are top critters. how long have you kept them?
