I went to petsmart today(dont give me any heat, i dont like them either) to take back some Melafix. I bought a Male Bleu Sparkling Gourami. I have never had one that i know of, and was wondering if there was anything important that i need to know. I have it in a 30g with a 30g Bio-wheel Filter, and a 150 watt heater. The fish are 1 Silver Angel, 4 Mollies, 1 guppy, 3 platy's( 1 is a dwarf), 2 baby juvenile convict's( getting rid of them as soon as i can catch them), and that's about it. Plus a plant and some slate work. Is that okay with all those other fish? I bought the fish on a impulse buy, i knew enough to keep it alive, but was wondering what thing's i need to pay special attention too. I will not buy another male because of aggression.

Very nice fish, but considered a bit timid. Make sure you have enough hiding spaces, and not a strong current. They eat basically the same as other gouramis, but are pretty sensitive to water conditions. So keep your tank clean!

You might get a problem with the mollies, since for some reason mollies don't like gouramis, and can bully them. See how things go.....

Good luck!

I havent noticed any aggression, but the gourami wont eat. He just sit's there, and one of his "feeler's( cant remeber the proper name right now) look's damaged. What should i do?

Is one feeler shorter than the other? Or is it partly in an angle? That doesn't matter, nothing serious; they can even be born with it.

The fact that he doesn't want to eat is more serious. Have you tried a veggie, such as an unshelled pea? Do you have a chance to isolate it to see if it starts eating then?

I dont usually feed pea's unless there bloated, which is almost never. I do feed Spirulina Flake 2 times daily and then their regular Flake's. He is now swimming around happily, but still wont eat. I also noticed at the lfs when i got im, everyone was stressed out, so i am thinking they were just pout in there?

Get some live food - bloodworm, blackworm, brine shrimp or daphnia. That should get him eating.

I did try Frozen Brine Shrimp, and Frozen Beefheart but no luck. Is live food the only option as i cant get a hold any around here. Even though there are 3 lfs's here!

Try adding garlic juice to the food, that might rasp their appetite.

Good New's!!!!!!!! After the last post, i saw him eating!!!!!!!!!! How do i get ahold of a female?

He is still thriving! His colors are Birlliant! I was told that if i really want a female they could special order me one at my fav lfs! Maybe there will be some babies comming soon!
