I noticed today that our blue gourami is getting darker on its back half. Is this common for this to happen?

Wow, I have never seen this before! At least not so dramatic. I am a big fan of Trichogaster trichopterus, I have been keeping them for several years. At first glance, I thought it was photo shopped. This fish is just a spawn of female blue Trichogaster trichopterus and male Opouline Trichogaster trichopterus. Of course I'm guessing at the parents sex, I'm basing it off the color variations and my personal experiences with different morphs of the Trichogaster trichopterus. I have witnessed blues get there sripes (opouline stripes) gradually as they grow, just not one half. I personally think there is nothing wrong with this fish. It's actually kinda cool.

I have read cases on the net that there are other people with this kind of problem as well, but they are rare occasions. Out of all the places I've read this from, none seems to know the problem. My only guess is that your gourami has some sort of defect of his photoreceptors in his front half. Only a guess though.

Have you ever seen it change its front half?

nope beacuse mine is a lighter blue all over the body and it has some awsome patterns on it
good luck on finding the problemo :good:

I noticed the same thing with my Gourami. After a reserch I'm quite cetrain is the Male who is showing off to the female ;))
