Hi all. I just set up a 150 gal freshwater tank after not having any fish for about 20 years. I used to have big tanks (200+ gal). 2 of my favorite fish were my royal pleco and my blue-eyed pleco. Has anyone else seen or still have the blue-eyed pleco?? It is same body style and shape as the royal, but body color is a charcoal-brown with bright blue eyes. I want to get one again but have not seen one at lfs. BTW... both my royal and blue-eyed pleco were almost 10 inches long. Very beautiful specimens. Too bad I did not have digital camera 20 years ago.

I'm afraid that you are highly unlikely to find a true blue eyed plec as they are now considered endangered and their export has been banned, i have seen one in the last 6 years and that was an old adult fish that the owner had given to a LFS and was selling for £150. The nearest thing you will find is a blue eyed royal plec (cant remember the L number right now) but these dont have the same stunning baby blue coloured eyes of the true blue eyed plec.

Royal plecs of all types and varieties are now much more common than they used to be and can be brought from almost any decent lfs for around £30.

thanks for the info... Is there a list available for endangerd species for various countries?? I'd rather not hunt for any that I know no longer can be legally obtained.
My Blue-eyed pleco was such a beauty... I named him Frank, after "ol' blue eyes".
