BLue Dwarf Gourami losing its colour?

I have a Coral Blue Dwarf Gourami...

and it used to be really blue and nice.

Recently, I looked at it closely, and it seems to be losing its blue colour.


Its nearly becoming a silver/white gourami.... is this a bad sign?

Im getting worried.

it could be stressed . do you test your water? what are the readings? perhaps there is a nitrite or ammonia spike.

i dont know if it is possible, but it could also be that your male dwarf gourami is really a female and it just looked bluer at the lfs

How do u tell if it is male or female? I dont know the difference.

It prolly is stressed, it gets chased around by my Gold Gourami alot..

Does stress make it lose colour?

Water should be ok, I havent tested, but all the other fishies are doing fine.

stress can change their colour - alot of fish tend to go paler.

basically, the male will be bright blue, the female will either be light brownish or a silvery colour (my little cousin described my female gourami as 'the moon, cos it's round and flat and silver white' ... she is only 6 though )

hmm...

1) it was a female fed with male hormones when u got it
2) a male fed with male hormones and now its wearing off
3) bad care lol

What is your gourami's general health like? Is losing his color the only problem?

What do you feed him? Does he eat well?

What other fish do you have in the same tank? Are there plants in the tank?

I feed him Nutrafin Max Color Enhancing Flake Food. He east quite well.

His health seems quite good other than the colour thing. Swimming around quite happily...when not being chased around.


I have 1 gold gourami, 1 rainbow shark, 5 neons and 3 flame tetras only.

no plants...all the plants i have are artifical ones.

If that's the dwarf gourami you wrote about in the other thread, my guess is that it's stressed out by being chased by the other gourami.

If so, once you find a home for the other gourami, he should return to normal.
