Anybody have experience of the above.

I am looking to give my BD a salt bath due to suspected microscopic parasite infection.

Looking to do an accurate 5 minute (max) salt bath in a half gallon salt mix (researched quantities). From there into a gallon of tank water (to purge) and from there into a recovery tank (heated and aerated) for an hour or so before returning his home tank. All water dechlorinated and temperature stabilized.

Any comments?

I just thought id say hi. Can you not treat the whole tank if easier with a med?

Don't like to subject all my fish to meds. as only one has a problem.

Ok, so drawing a blank here I researched and, so for anyone interested, here's what happened.

Fish placed in 1 gallon of water treated with 3% of rock salt (devoid of any de-caking additives) equalling 115 grms.

With the addition of an airstone the fish was observed for exactly 5 minutes at which time it began to roll over so was removed and placed in holding tank containing water from main tank. The fish recovered within seconds but remained there for one hour when upon I transferred it back into the main tank.

Next day fish seemed cured of it's habit but now this evening I see it is still 'flicking' against the rocks and substrate but not so violently as before.

I will observe over the next few days........

Oh? The reason for this drastic action was after noticing that the one fish was flicking badly against anything rough I treated the tank, twice, for ich even though no white spots were present. Afterwards the fish still continued to bash it's self regularly. I was going to treat the tank with an external bacterial infection and gill fluke med but it said to only treat if marks on side of fish was observed which I could not.
I then found an artical that suggested a salt bath, although quite hard on the fish, was effective against gill and bacterial infections.

Have you had any new fish recently? I had to treat for gill fluke recently because of this.

Another option is flukesolve. You then could treat the one fish in a 24 hour period though i think sterazin is a bit milder. cheers

Good news......all flicking behaviour has ceased since the second day after the salt bath

so not planing and further medication at this time. I think the fish was just purging its self after the salt bath of any dead infestations.

Fingers cross as it's a stunning example and well worth saving

Thanks for your imput
