Oh I forgot to mention that my big tank is a 130 Gallon ( almost 500 liters) and my two breeding tank are 29 Gallon long ( 110 liters ).

That puts a smile on my face. You use the Hagen GLO range, yes? I have been running the smaller 2 24W T5HO (2ft) unit on my 60L planted tank, with good results. However, i was using the larger (3ft) 2 39W T5HO unit on my larger (4ft) 280L tank, with somewhat dissapointing results. This was with no CO2, or ferts though. So i can't be to dissapointed with my results. I'm currently in the midst of setting up this same 4ft tank as an actual planted tank, with the full works as i have done with my smaller tank. So results aught to be better.

You mention with bad reflectors, are they the ones that come with the unit, or have you got your own DIY ones. Reason i ask is because i've not got a fault with mine that came with the units themselves, i actually rate them quite highly. Certainly are polished to a more than satisfactory level IMO.

How far is Ajax Ontario Toronto from you, i have a friend there i may have to 'visit' and come get some fish! Haha, seriously gutted your in Canada, they are magnificent angels, simply isn't fair :fun:

The colours of your Angels in your breeder are a whole new level of beauty, if thats even possible because they are stunning enough in your main tank.

Hi
As you can see by my equipment, I'm a big hagen fan. I'm very surprised that you had bad results with your 2 39W T5HO unit. The reason why I'm surprised is that I was using 2 48" 40 watt T8( Life Glo bulbs ) on my 4 ft Hagen Waterhome with great results as well. Were you using a glass cover on the tank between the water surface and the bulb? what kind of bulbs were you using?

As far as the "bad" reflectors go.... I was referring to the stock ones that came with my Hagen Profile 1500. Its just a flat panel ( white in color). It not even a reflector. The actual Hagen Glo reflectors are some of the best ones around. Very efficient.

Ajax is 2 hours away........come on down, I'll give you some angels LOL.

Cheers

Bad results, but it wasn't the light units fault, not that it can be an objects fault at all anyway, but y'know what i mean. I was using it my 280L tank, which is 22" deep (i think) and it was sat a good 4-5, possibly 6" above the water surface The unit is only 3ft, and the tank is 4ft (couldnt afford the 4ft model at the time). So i think i was asking a fair bit of the unit to do what i wanted of it, perhaps i don't know.

I was not running any CO2 of any sort and did not dose any ferts. The plants were in for decorative purposes, because at the time i had a Jack Dempsey pair in also. It is worth mentioning i did have glass sliders on the tank most of the time, which were covered in calcium deposits and algae marks towards the edges. So plants didn't really fare to well at all. As for the bulbs i am using 2 Arcadia 39W T5 Plant Pro's, and i have two new replacement bulbs of the same make ready to go on, for when my latest planted endeavour begins.

The new plan in this tank will be dosing ferts the EI method (i find it effective), and i'll be running pressurised CO2 from a 2kg Fire Extinguisher. Glass sliders will be absent from this tank - LOL.

I did wonder if you meant a different reflector to the one i thought, as the Hagen GLO range is exceptional value for money for what you get IMHO.

And if i ever visit my friend in Ajax Ontario, i shall be sure to let YOU know i'm on my way. A 2 hour drive having travelled a couple thousand miles across the world isn't to out of the way, really. Ofcourse that scenario of me being over they're isn't likely to materialise any time soon, shame :fun: But IF it does, i'll be hounding you for those Angels! Haha.

***** UPDATE *****

**** 3 Month old Blue Angelfish Fry ****

**** 3 1/2 Month old Blue Angelfish Fry ****

The biggest ones are now loonie size. I have saved 7 for myself and sold the rest. Since angelfish have so many fry some are bound to be different. Notice there are 3 that are almost an albino color ( no stripes, no dark color, no red eye ) .
I find these to be pretty interesting because these could be the next gen blue/albino angelfish once I get them to breed.....providing that they stay like they are. Let see what develops ....
