Hello, I just recently discovered these forums, and I have been wondering something. I have a 25 gal FW with 5 - Sunset Platies (2 males), 6 Blue Platies(all females), and one large male silver Sailfin Molly, my question is can I expect the the blue Platies to become pregnant from the Sunset Platy males? I have noticed they don't seem to bother with each other.

if you are intentionally trying to crossbreed fish...dont....even though i dont think they would.....

Probably not, I've noticed that our platties don't mix sexually either (sunsets, mickeys, balloon bellies) I think it's an attraction thing....they should be able to mate but they just don't bother with each other.

Thanks for the help, Thats what its seems they're doing, althought sometimes the blues will swim with the sunsets, I've never seen them mating. But if they were to breed would it hurt anything?

I don't think it would hurt the fish any (others may argue that it creates crossbreeds that dilute the species or bloodlines or something :/ ...I'm not sure  )
but I look at it like mutt dogs or cats, as long as you're not trying to pass them off as something they're not, and you're not purposely trying to breed different species, let nature take it's course and enjoy. :D

see this is why we have all thease weird looking dogs. have you ever looked at the number of dog speicies? all come from just a few different types. the gold fish is entirely man made. all different species are infact mutants me especially :alien:
and for an oncour i cant tell you that the egg came first as it was a hen egg laid by something verry similar to a chicken.
