Bloody Scratches...where Do They Come From

I'm sure i have little green elves that come out at night rub my algae remover in the sand and then skate up and down the glass..surely

I always make sure there is no grit in the algae removers and nothing abrasive on the tank but dam don't ya hate it when they appear on the front.

Rant over !

I would be very interested in some sort of super hardened scratch resistant glass - that way when you invest in a dream aquarium it doesn't suddenly spawn an ugly scratch across the front...

Ugh, this was my main reason for getting rid of my sand substrate in the first place I know it looks nicer, but consequently the front of my aquarium is soooo badly scratched.

I'm not quite sure how it got like this either as I was always very careful when cleaning the glass. Some are so deep I'm not sure they would even polish out

I think the quality of sand you buy does affect your glass. I use unipac sand and not a single scratch on the tank when I'm cleaning. It is expensive though but worth it. I have 50kg in my tank with mbuna that dig constantly. Not a scratch on the glass. Play sand is terrible but a cheap option. And when I say I clean the tank I really clean the tank. I'm not how you say gentle.

im using the unipac sand too, i've found that a toothbrush is much better than the magnetic algae scruder as obviously the long bristles dont trap the sand like the short velcro style

I use one of them sponge pads with the nylon scourer on them , works a treat ......

Apparently a new type of optiwhite glass is coming out that is of similar hardness to sapphire glass
