I went to the LFS today and bought some frozen Blood Worm, what i would like to know is how much do i feed them and how often? I defrosted a cube today then added that to the tank, they scoft it back in seconds  If anyone could let me know how and when to feed them that would be great :good:

i add it frozen m8 some others defrost it first for the amount that depends on fish amount and size all depends weather 2 cubes or 1 cube but only feed as a treat say once maybe twicw a week :)

Thanks M8, i have 14 fish in the tank that are molly/platy size and i gave them 1 cube today. I think i'll give it once a week as i have algae flakes and pellets for the catfish. :good:

Seems we've had the fish of some members here have a bit of trouble from too much blood worm. Maybe some member here could speak to what amount would be the right level of caution for this (assuming I'm remembering right.)

Meanwhile JenCliBee's mention of only twice a week seems reasonable.

I think it depends on what fish you have.We were advised (by ColinT I think) that rainbow fish should only have on occasions.
Our Barbs love them so we give them a weekly treat by squirting them in with a syringe in their corner where they feed...the rainbows get their flakes/granules at the same time on the other side of the tank and so they don't go for the blood worm.
Seems to be working well.

Also, depends on the size of the cube as they are not all the same.

Too many bloodworms can cause digestive problems in your fish - e.g. constipation - so putting a whole cube in your tank to feed just 14 fish is a bit too much really. Yes, they will eat it but it isn't necessarily good for them to have that much. Best if you were to defrost the cube and feed them half and if you can see they are still hungry, give them something else with it, say a bit of flake or dried daphnia etc.

It's also a good idea to defrost the cube in a little of the tank water beforehand, anyway, because adding it straight into the tank can dirty your tank water and make it smell.

I have a little cup I keep just for bloodworms and a pair of tweezers for adding them into the tank with - and I feed bloodworms about every 3 days now (used to do it daily until I found out it wasn't good for them) - and once a week I give the fish crushed peas to help prevent constipation and swimbladder disorder.

The cubes are about 1/2 of an inch square and i defrost them before giving them, i also mush them slightly between my fingers so there in peices and more easy to eat.

i use one cube a week between all my tanks well apart from 2 fry tanks so one cube feeds:

4 bettas
2 cories
2 endlers
7 platies
10 guppies
3 neons

through out various tanks
