So I got this blood parrot maybe like a month ago from a family owned store. He was very sciddish when anyone went near his tank. I ofcorse i got him even though he was sciddish to like see maybe it would pass over. Now all he does is hide in his aqua cave and never comes out and it's been a month and a half. Thing is I know everything is OK water is good ph amona heater temp EVERYTHNG Is perfect for him. When I first got him in to the tank he developed those common black spots and stared digging wich is fine bc he was stressed and was getting used to the new environment then they went away and. Now it's been a month and the spots came back and went away. But he still.wont come out not even for feeding. He is fat and healthy too his color is great 👍. He rarely comes out only if I'm completely silent and not moving and not looking at him. I recently got a smaller baby blood parrot Ina separate tank he is also hiding wich is normal got him bought a week ago. So he is gunna be sciddish and hiding for a month so I'll give him some slack. Bit anyone know why a fully adult healthy blood parrot is constantly hiding? I worried because whenever I come up to the class when he is out he darts away faster then Usain Bolt! And hits his head ok the glass!! If I come up like really slow like snail speed he will move and back up. :(

Fish can become skittish if the water quality is bad or has the wrong chemistry (pH, KH and GH), or if they aren't use to people being around them.

Test the water quality (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) and post the results in numbers here. Check the pH and GH too.

Make sure the temperature is correct.

Is the aquarium in a main living area in the house or in a dark room that nobody goes into?
Fish will become shy and retiring if kept in dark rooms that aren't occupied for most of the day. this can be partly treated by having a small television on in the room. you don't need sound but the flashing light and movement on the screen can help fish get use to things moving around them.

You can also use a small oscillating fan with some streamers attached to the front cage. Tie some coloured streamers (about 18 inches long) to the cage on the front of the fan. Have the fan on low and let it oscillate so the streamers wave about. It doesn't have to be on all day, but should be on regularly. Put it on a time so it's on for an hour and off for an hour throughout the day when nobody is in the room.

Make sure there is some floating plants to reduce light and make the fish feel more secure.

Make sure there is a picture on the back of the tank and some dark substrate so the fish feels safer.

If you post a picture showing the entire aquarium we might be able to offer more information.

I would take pictures but my.phone Camra is broken 💔 but I can describe the tank! Not sure that helps but it's a big 40 gallon with and rock cave and a longer stand up decor laying on its side to give more dark areas for my pleco and Cory's. And I did a liquid test and its all good 👍 tm is water change day too so maybe that might help. As I'm typing this he came out 5 times and swam around a bit then hid back in his cave. I also notice his spots he had that started this Monday are gone. And it's Thursday. I also.forgot.to mention that he dose eat I just have to give him his food in his cave.

Don't put food in his cave, put it out in the open so he has to come out for it. If you put it in his cave he won't need to come out and you are trying to encourage him out into the open.

Another option is adding some dither fish. These are smaller peaceful fishes that live in groups and move around the tank. They act normally and this can encourage shy fish to come out more. Dither fish can be big tetras, barbs, rainbowfish or something that lives in groups of 6-10+ individuals and swims about in the upper half of the tank.

He feels overexposed in his environment. Try adding some hides(like caves or flower pots), and dim the lighting in the tank. If you Don't have a light dimming setting, buy some surface plants.
(The bottom tank is an example and isn't mine)
