Bleach In Fish Tank

I cleaned my fish tank out yesterday. I put the ornaments in a large container with some bleach and hot water the are some resin figures, a bamboo stick/plant and 2 silk plants. I rinsed everything off thoroughly and put it back in the tank. I put the fish in and they have all died. When I checked the tank it smelled of bleach, obviously this killed the fish. On reading websites the bamboo would of held the bleach. The water is still in the tank and has been since yesterday about 9pm, planning to take it out tonight after work. I now want to replenish the tank. The question is, how can I clean the tank and ornaments and filter so that it is not hazardous to any new fish, will there be any damage to the tank with the water being in it still and will I have new tank syndrome

If it was me i would start all over....get new filter media and re cycle and go from there.

Most bleach is chlorine based, so there's every chance that it's killed off your filter bacteria, as well as the fish.

I'd rinse everything out with loads and loads of freshwater and add a double dose of dechlorinater when you refill. Get hold of some household ammonia, dose to about 2 or 3ppm and run the tank for 12 hours, then retest and see if the ammonia has gone.

If it has, your filter bacteria has survived and you can restock; if not the bacteria are dead, and you'll have to do a full cycle.

For the future, you only need hot water, and possibly a strong salt solution for cleaning anything that goes in your tank.

what ratio was the bleach to water? so what bleach was it? Hopefully not demestos or other thick bleach.

I've noticed my LFS sells a special ornament cleaning solution. Not sure what it's made of, but should be aquarium safe.

Why is this a troll? Ur the 1 with 1 post? Firstly I'd get rid of that bamboo because who knows how long it will hold the bleach. And then replace all you filter media etc and start fresh. Oh yeah don't use bleach again lmao

yeah 1 post, but my first post isn't about using bleach on aquarium ornaments lol....

There's been alot of accusations flying around the forums recently with people with only 1 post asking "stupid" questions. For all we know, they've had this problem and didn't know the answer so signed up to the forum. Let's not judge and assume it's a genuine person in need. It usually doesnt take long to see he isn't a troll though, do a quick google search for the djchivz + fish and you get results where he has talked about fish before. Little bit of research before calling people trolls goes a long way.

I would definately get rid of the bamboo and then start tank again without it, bleach is nasty stuff!
