Black Water

I put black sand in my tank and I turned the light on and it looks like the sand has setteled but the water is black can I start my filters yet

did you wash the sand first? if the sand has settled then you can turn your filter on

Is this the same tank as the other two posts about black sand? If so, did you take the advice about taking the sand out and washing it properly and also did you do a complete water change using a plate (as mentioned in the other thread)?
