I've got 6 black skirt tetras in my 55 gallon, and I've heard mixed stories about them being fin nippers. Some of the fish I'm considering (angelfish, gouramis, though I don't know about getting both, I might get one or the other) would be quite vulnerable to this. Mine have never bothered fish outside their group (and over the last month have stopped fighting amongst themselves and just schooling together semi-peacefully), but they've never had anything with long tempting fins.

My question is, are they nippers or not? Would they mix with angelfish? I originally chose them largely because I knew if I ever did decide on angelfish, I didn't have to worry about the angel eating them. Now I'm worried about them hurting the angel.

from personal experience my black skirt tetras have never fin nipped and ive had angels in the past and gouramis and still have them now with absolutely no probs at all. in complete contrast my serpae tetras are fin nippers and have to be kept an eye on so, as you can see, i guess not all tetras are the same!!

Thanks! I'm glad I did look a bit more into things, and I took the risk and bought two angels. I was a bit worried at first, since they were no sooner wet than they set a bout letting everybody in the tank know who the new boss is. They've settled down, and swim right alongside the tetras with no conflict.
