I now know that i will be using black sand but whats the best type to use. This is what i have found so far.

Flourite Black sand - 7kg for £24

Black silica quartz sand - 25kg for £34

Unipac black sand - 25kg for £32

Or if anyone knows of anything else please let me know.

By the way its for a Juwel Vision 450 so will need abit and i have not got a bottomless pit of money unfortunately so the first one is out of the question unless i can get it cheaper.

Any good?

Cheers but it does not look that black in the picture. Might just get alittle sample to see what its like.

Thanks.

I've used unipac black sand. I have a 120 litre tank, but I've created quite a deep substrate as I wanted to be able to see it through the glass a bit, above the black trim at the bottom of the tank (it's the Juwel Lido). I've also raised the back left hand corner, and along the back of the tank to create slopes, so I've used a fair bit more than if I'd have just put in a flat 2" substrate.

It's also the cheapest black sand I found, that's actually black!

Hope that helps! :)
