black limpopo sand from aqua essentials is good , a total pig to wash tho

Just a comment on black limpopo sand - it raises pH and hardness. I got some and tested it with vinegar - it fizzed. So I did a test using two tubs of water, one with sand and one without. After letting them stand for a week the pH was 0.3 higher in the tub with sand compared to tub without, and the GH and KH were both 2 german degrees higher (API liquid tests).

You can get black tahitian sand off ebay. £20 delivered for 20lb bag. Looks lovely in all the tank pictures i've seen it in. Pretty sure it's inert too. made by caribsea also sometimes called black marine sand.
