Any one got fishy water wings?

Black Rye turned calico with black lips after Goth didn't make it.

(The LFS manager let me have choice of any after his big buy customer finished. I chose a light orange taffeta Oranda with black piping around the fins.)

Rye's a plucky little girl. Nevertheless she began to float on her back more and more often and then for longer and longer periods.

When I feed I tried to feed some near her. Still she went from blump and fiesty to lean and drole.

Last week she showed up with septicema. It is responding to the Pima/MelaFix.

But she isn't able to eat. Can I get a water based nutrition? I actually don't have a lot of time to spend trying to feed her.

I actually did read that fishy water wings had been developed.

Anything I put on my finger washes off before she gets it. Her control is not focused. Never was.

I take it shes a ryukin? Im afraid this type of golfish have more deformed swim bladders than other fantail types and its really hard if not impossible to get them back the right way. Have you tried starving and then just feeding peas? Dont feed any more flaked foods as this causes gas build ups.
Im afraid if it is congenital then theres nothing much you can do except maybe lowering the water level to 6 inches to take the pressure off and checking your nitrate level is low.

Yes, Black Angel. We had a drama with her floating last summer, but she righted. After that she had more and more frequent bouts of swim trouble that lasted longer and longer. I soaked the food and only used sinking food. I fed peas and oranges pretty regular. But now she never can stay on her belly and can't get to the bottom to eat. She hasn't eaten in a long time. Can I feed with an eyedropper? What can I best feed her with an eye dropper--mashed pea I suppose. Then what? She is in an Eclipse 3 for now. I don't think the filtration will work that low. I have an undergravel filter betta tank--2.5 usg--that might work. I don't expect her to get right. Should I continue?

I really did hear of fishy water wings for swim bladder fish.

Im sure you did hear about the water wings as there are aids out there for bouyancy issues in fish. The problem with those is that they will rub the slime coat so making it easier for parasites to attach or fungal infections.

You will still need at least 5 gallons for holding him in and plenty of filtration. If he isnt feeding then hand feeding is a chore.
You could try a gel food made with tuna, peas and with added rice and blend together and add melted gelatin. Put into something like an ice cube tray and put in the fridge and feed that.

it really depends on if you feel his quality of life has gone whether or not you want to go on with him.

Yes perhaps gel with a syringe. If I can get the supplies, I will try tomarrow. He will get the accomadations he gets. I suppose a Sterilite and filter would do, but I don't have much room. The goldies have gone on the porch with a heater. She is on the kitchen counter with the Bettas who are waiting for the move to the barracks bookcase.

I will try a bit longer. But if I remember I will also get some oil of cloves.
