Hi, Im a newbie to this forum. I have three black Phantom Tetras in my tank one of which has lost an eye. All three fish are suffering from finrot problems but their fins seem to recovering after treatment.

Should I leave the fish with one eye alone as it doesnt seem to be in that bad of a state? Also how long should I continue treatment for finrot? So far I have been treating the fish for three weeks.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks, Graham

what are you treating with?
what are your water parameters(nitrate, nitrite, ammoina)?
what is the temperature?

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm treating with Interpret No8 Anti Fungus & Finrot which contains phenoxyethanol. I have raised the temperature to 26 degrees from the original 24 degrees. Also I had a water test back along and was informed that the PH was 1 too low - so have used PH Up as recommended by the guy in the pet store to increase the PH. I'm not quite sure on the current readings. I am guessing it would be worthwhile me getting a kit. My tank is a BiOrb 30 litre tank. Just wondering whether fish can survive with just one eye?

My little brother has an albino cory with one eye. He seems to be doing very good. :D

I have two danios, a rummynose tetra and a rainbowfish that have one eye each.
all are quite healthy.
you need to ensure that it dosn't get an infection, daily water changes of 10% and adding melafix will help there.
I'd also raise the temp by 1 more degree C.

My friends sister had a danio that lost an eye to a betta, he died when he swam into the tank wall.

LOL! He died cause he was the only fish of his kind in the tank and got lonely and depressed.

Could also be cause the betta that took his one eye was never seperated from him... :dunno:

:p

Thanks for the advice! The only other thing im not quite sure on is when I should stop treating the fish for finrot. Are you meant to carry on until all the fins are fully regenerated?
