They can easily hit 20" long, so you are looking at a tank at least 48 by 20 wide by 18 tall.

I've had little luck with any smaller than around 4" but my two larger ones are doing fine (around 7 and 8 inches now).

As to hard or not, I wouldn't like ot say. Many people keep them. Some have trouble, others don't.

i keep mine in a 30 gal community right now... hes about 3 or so inches.. but when he hits maybe... 5"s... i'll move him to a 50 gal.. and so on.... lovable fish indeed :fun:

If we are on about black ghost knief fish then no - got two and they are ace

(Not in the same tanks)

I've had mine for 4-5 weeks. It's about 3 inches long. So far so good... no problem whatsoever.

it was a bit shy for the first few days, but then it came out everytime I put food in the tank and when I turned the light off. Now it seems to show up many times a day, even when the light is on.

Very pretty fish... very interesting to watch.

Well I have had mine a few months now.
I got it from a fish auction for £5. It seemed to of been a little chewed up but nothing major. It's fit and healthy now and is aproximately 5-6".

This is the first knife I have ever owned and it seems to be doing well. It lives in a 4ft long 30" wide by 20" top to bottom and inhabits a discus spawning cone which has been put on its side. It seems partial to finely chopped prawns.
I wish I had bought one years ago now.

They remind me of my trip up the Xingu and Irriri Rivers a couple of years ago. The exporters I visited had paddling pools and tanks full of them.

I've had my Ghost for about 2 years, in a 75g tank. I suppose they're not beginner fish, but I haven't found him really hard to keep happy. But then again, I've only owned the one, so my experience is limited. :)

I dont have any problems with mine at all....such a character I love to sit and watch it sleep upside down with its mouth open hahaha.....it a very unusual and wonderful fish. If you have a big enuff tank to keep it in and can provide it with what it needs eg, tube ov some sort to rest in and feel secure in and prawn and fish brine etc to eat then they arent that hard to keep, like every fish look up what your not sure about and you should have no problems....mary :p A GREAT ADDITION TO ANYONES TANK !
