BLACK GHOST KNIFE?!?!

Yes, it should be fine in a planted tank. Black Ghost knife fish are nocturnal and preffer dimly lit areas, so a planted tank would be ideal!

alright thanks, are der anyother types of fish that prefer this type of setting?

for those of you that don't know DER=upper Wisconsin word for there :*)

BGK are fine with planted and none planted tanks just be sure its a large tank of 50g+ as these guys get to 20" also keep small fish away from them as they will become feeders!

HTH

yeah they need room and they like a lot of plants, dont get more then one because they will mess eachothere up.

50 gallon? I would say nothing short of a 120 gallon or so (4'L X 2'W), but a 180 would be more practicle. These guys get up to 26".

120? 180? thats just ridiculous. They can stay in 50 gallons and be just fine.

i would say his 50 gallon would work. they are very slow growers, they will not reach that 24 inch mark for about 10 years or so, as if they are properly taken care of their life span is around 50 years.

I can't say that I have ever heard of a person owning a BGK that reached more then 17 inches. I think BGK would do well in a 50g for yrs...Mine was in a 55 for 2 yrs,at just over 11 inches, now housed in a 90 ...tho had it been just one bgk,I think a 55 would have worked at least another yr...they do grow very very slowly.

Yes, extremely slowly. However, a member of another forum that I am a member of keeps a 24" BGK. Sorry to disaggree Val. :p :D

Yeah butt that is one person...how many others have you known to own a BGK at that size or even near that size?

and more importantly, have ya seen proof? :p

Uh... yes, of course I have... I think... :D Anyway, the recorded maximum size for these guys is still 26", and there's always the possibility that it will grow to that size, and it is best to prepare for it's maximum size. So there. :p :D
