I have been feeding blood worms but because of the way he is swimming he is not even attempting to eat.
I used some ph down as it was at 7.6 and bkg like a ph of 6.6. I normaly prefer natural ways ie shell / sand / bog wood to change ph up or down but this fish was handed over in pretty bad condition so want water to be at its best. we have soft water in Scotland yes but all my tanks sit around 7.4 - 7.6. consistantly.
thanks for all replys but can you bear in mind I only rehomed him Tuesday night - he had been kept at least 48 hrs by previous owners in a water container. he had all these problems before I got him.

Did you test the pH of the water in the container he came in?

Have you tested for ammonia/nitrite/nitrate yet?

I would suggest large, daily water changes, using nothing but a dechlorinator, for the moment. Actual levels of pH are relatively unimportant. Good, clean water is your best bet for helping this fish, IMO.

pbase - tank is dim, daily dose of melafix. sorry but him being constantly vertical is not ok in my book for any fish.

fluttermoth - yes tank tested 2 days before he went in - all 0. had 50% water changes wed & last nite and be continuing that for foreseeable. tank will be tested weekly instead of monthly also to make sure it is fine. I have air filter, fluval 2 and fluval 4 running ( 4 had not been used in a while so 2 will be coming out in a few days as I want a better filter in with him - 2 was suitable with just bn in tank ).
I am using the melafix as he has visible body and fin damage - dechlorinater is always used when doing water changes.
ph for me is important for the fish - especially if they are not 100%.
I wish I had thought to test water before I dumped it down the loo - none of it went in my tank tho!!
he has become more stable even tho still vertical and attempting to bring his nose down but as yet still has not fed.

do you know how I can put video or pictures on here?

for me it is either poisoning or swim bladder so if I can post a video it might be easier to tell?
