Hello everyone you have aready given me great advice tonight another question...As well as aquiring a cat fish i have now got a Black Knife fish (ghost) he is lovely but when i put him n the tank my small red tailed shark (bit of a bully) chased him most of the day until the ghost found a safe place to go. i know the shark is teritorial and has his disputes now and again but will the ghost fish be able to cope with him! I have a african knife fish who is quite big and sorts the small shark out and is quite tough but the ghost is fairly small and runs away from the shark and woudnt come out to feed so not sure if he has eaten as when he tried the shark chased him. Do you think he will toughen up!! I hope so as i love them both as you tend to when you watch them etc. I have lots of rockery and plants in a big tank (about 50 gallon) just wondered if anyone had experience with both fish together.

Thanks

Cyprinids can be fairly aggressive. If the fish has a giant ego, eg, an african mbuna, the fish may be dominated by such chasing. However, if the animal gets sick of this because he really is stronger than the offender, a battle may ensue. My cousin had a clown knife in with a red devil, and eventually, the clown knife just toughened up. In some instances, the offender will become the offended, the tables will turn. eg one of my catfish was chased by my oscar pair, but now he beats the crap out of them both, especially when he wants fresh fish eggs to eat. Your best chance is to let the ghost knife toughen up, or if he is being destroyed, you have no choice but to remove one of the fish.

er, you are aware that BGK grow much larger than your African Brown Knife and are not suited for any aquarium under 75g, right? BGK can easily reach and exceed 18" when mature.

I LOVE BLACK GHOST KNIFEFISH :hyper: .. they are awesome.. when we get the new tank set up and running for a while i will be buying one of these guys!! i'm jealous of you!

let us know how it goes with the rtbs, coz we have one also!

good luck

:)

I'm not sure about the shark, but just a few weeks ago I had both an african knife fish and a BGK fish. The african knife killed the BGK and then let my tyre track eel eat it!!!

I have an asian featherfin knifefish (a relative of the african knife) in the same tank as my bgk and they get along fine but my bgk is slightly bigger thn th asian one.
I used to have an albino ruby shark in the same tankas my bgk and i didn't notice anything, but i had to remove him because he was having a go at the polypterus and sucking the mucus (is that the right word?) off them, causing them to have white marks all over them.
