Black Ghost Knife Fish Tankmate Question

Tank is fine id say, Discus are a no no with the BGK and Polypterus, id give your Discus 3-5 days prior to the Poly eating a lump out of them :)

The tank is 1'1" tall. It's 2' wide.

So, no discus? What type of big fish do you recommend? I was thinking maybe a Lima Shovel-nosed Cat or two. A tank of this size would be too small for a group of Balas, right? I just thought I'd double-check.
Thanks,
GobyMaster

i would really watch the bkg. some individuals are really aggressive and not to mention always hungry. my fire eel took some damage from it.

Don't bgk's grow to 20inches long? Hows it gonna turn around in a 24inch wide tank when it grows up? Or is this not a completely permanent tank for the bgk in the long run?

I would say the best way for harmony is to have all young fish, but still no discus.
I've had a black ghost knive (Mr. Wiggles) for almost 5 years now and he was maybe 2" long when i got him and quite a shy fish. I would have to place shrimp pellets near his castle where he resides otherwise he'd wait for everyone else to finish eating, even though they ate up top and his food was on the bottom. Now as the years have gone by he's become very passive, I even have small danio's in the tank and he doesnt mess with them at all. He's learned now to keep an eye out for that feeding ring I have floating in the tank. when i feed my fish i put their food in the feeding ring to keep it out of the filters and gives everyone a chance to eat, everyone scrambles when his big head appraches and he usually cleans everything out of that feeding ring. What i'll do now is put bloodworms in the ring and let the little guys start, then drop a cube of freeze dried worms in the ring as well, he's learned now that the cube is for him and he'll work on that instead of scamming all the other food.
Sorry, long story short, these fish have personalities mixed with instint and some will do just find together while others that should may never will.

I once had a peacock eel 9 inches long .black ghostknife 8 inches long and a senegal all in a 55 gallon tank they were fine I had to get rid of the senegal though because he was eating all my smaller fish
