I live in Louisiana and it has been raining quite a bit lately, coming home this after noon, i noticed a very large puddle next to my driveway with adleast 50, 1 to 2 inch black cat fish. I am worried that with the rain going away and there not being an escape from the puddle, they will die in there. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do for them until i can find a place for them to go? I do have an extra 10 gallon tank in my house, but have no idea how to take care of them. Please respond with any ideas, as i dont want to let them die out there.

Do you have an animal care organization where you live. If so get in touch with them and they most probably will be able to help. If not them, then maybe a local fish shop. I'm really curious, how big is this puddle and how did the fish get there? :S

i would either put them in a bucket or a small child's pond and found out if it is safe to release them. then contact the dnr office closest to you and see where they suggest to release them. or if you know someone with a pond. should be fine with an aerator in the bucket or pool.

if you have a dollar store near you, they have small tot sized blowup pools. just got one for my neice.

I know it sounds nuts, but the puddle is about 3 foot deep and about 4 foot wide. I have a very very long driveway and i put culverts in it for any excess water flow. Most everyone around me has large ponds most about half mile to mile long. When they overflow all of the fish wash off into my culvert puddles. I cannot tell you how many fish i have rescued from the almost ditch the culvert has made. I have even rescued, believe it or not, guppys from there. I guess they are being used as feeder fish in this area since they reproduce so rapidly. I keep returning them to their homes, but it is getting to be a bother to tell you the truth. I may just have to dig my own pond and add all of the overflow i keep acquiring. Thank you for your suggestions, I only caught one out of there today, as they are very quick, i may just keep it full with a hose? Could work. Thank you Sandy
