I think i've come into the wrong forum group? But my problem is that my tank is now two years old, and never really suffered from a real algea problem. However I have recently been in hospital so was unable to do the regular water changes I do, now I find that I have a fur like black algae growing on my old pieces of my bog wood the new piece wihich is a month old is alright at the moment. How do I stop it.

First let me say WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!!

Next, just wanted to let you know I moved your post to this forum. I don't believe it to be an emergency per se, but thought it may get more of a response here.

The best thing IMO is to take the driftwood out of the tank and using a algae pad designed for aquarium use scrub the algae off then simply place it back in the tank.

The algae should come off with little or no problems this way.

Another solution, but one to take with great care is to soak it in a very mild solution of water and bleach. If you decide to do this make sure to RINSE the wood very good before placing it back into the tank.
