I think its a real shame different sex Bettas cant be kept together knowing that they wont be peaceful with each other. I know there are expections but its not everyday to have a tank full of fry.
They are such beautiful fish and that was the only thing that put me off buying them. All the horror stories I had heard.
But I guess its in their nature to be like that.

a tank of females works, usually if you have more than 5, but the more the better to spread the aggression, i kept the two together a few years back and only now knowing about them have kept them seperate, i enjoyed my males more when they were seperate they tend to bond with there owner and you get to see there individual personalities. they really are great fish to keep, i can't wait to get one again :good:

betta imbellis (peaceful betta) can be kept in mixed sex groups, and ive seen pics of some colour mutations too. they are not like VT betta but they look very much like the wild type betta splendens, but like i say, im sure i have seen some coloured ones too. they can easily hybridise with spendens too and some of the hybrid offspring are colourful and have the peaceful nature of the imbellis
