i was in pets at home aaaages ago and saw this bird, i know nothing about birds
i tried searching for a picture but i don't even know what kind it was!
gah, all i know is it made me go  because it was a very vivid purple, ALL over.
small parrot-ish looking.

it was a medium sized bird, cockatoo sized ish, maybe a little larger.

any idea??

i couldn't have a bird where i am, small flat & thin walls
and if i did i'd have to have a mahoooosive cage otherwise i'd feel guilty

but does anyone have a clue what that bird was?

the only type of bird that my pets at home does that matches your description is a love bird, they come in all sorts of colours...google for a pic..finches come in purple but are much smaller than a cockatoo.

thanks

Danny

Im not sure either :/ The only birds i know of that are vivid purple all over are finches as Danny said, but they're tiny and you said its 'too sized

A female vosmaeri eclectus is red with a purple chest and is cockatoo sized - Thats about the closest i can think of

Not a blue macaw :dunno:

it was possibly dyed then
it was definately not a finch, or a macaw.

it wasn't an eclectus as it was actually purple all over without the red head.

i think i'm going to go with a dyed bird!

A dyed bird? :/ I've never heard of that!!

It was most likely a mutation to be honest as i've never heard of any completely purple birds before -_-

They do it by "painting/spraying" the feathers with dye (not sure what kind, but it's very strong in color). The color will wear off in a few months. I've seen purples, neon green and electric blue birds that were normally dull brown in color. It was odd, to say the least...

EDIT:
You can tell if a bird is dyed by looking at it's skin. It's pretty hard to color their feathers without getting any of the dye on their skin.

 You know, why don't we just start dying humans and make them run around in shades of neon green and purple? Is it me, or is this dying craze just becomming really, really annoying? Next thing you know, it'll be genetically engineered glo-birds. Oooooooo, I really want a glo-canary. Brown is not an ugly color. Some of the loveliest birds in the world are in shades of glorious brown! I will stop ranting now, sorry to be off-topic. Somebody needs to show me a picture, because I really need to see it to believe it.
