Hope I'm putting this in the right place?!

Does anyone know if I can open up the filter cartridge for the BiOrb tank so that I can keep back some of the media inside and therefore hang on to useful bacteria?
Or do you actually open up the plastic casing and just replace what is inside anyway - not sure as this is a new tank today.

Thanks

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but I used to have a biorb. When the sponge gets really dirty, take out the whole plastic casing assembly and then take out the sponge. Rinse the sponge in a bucket of tank water, and put it back in. Do not rinse with tap water as the chlorine will kill the beneficial bacteria. If you'd like you can replace some of the activated carbon underneath the sponge if you want to. Hope this helps.
