probably going to hold some thai micro crabs if its suitable (need to research) am starting to cycle it at the mo so just browsing info at mo. any help or info would be great. so far have been told the filtration is rubbish

I'm not a fan of them tanks at all TBH. They are far too over priced for what they are. But for some people they work good.

I'd go with urmm.. lol, the crabs if you can keep them. Something differnt ;). If not I don't think theres much you can keep in them tanks, few tetra/shrimp and or a betta?

i dont know how much they are, this was given to me by the mother in law. i think my other half is trying to distract me from my plans to have a second 30 gallon lol i can see what they trying to do.
so have you had biorbs? what dont you like? the filtration?

I have a Biube which is practically the same. There are a couple of problems, especially with biorbs. Firstly they have a pretty rubbish filter system as it is air powered. You can keep it if you want, inwhich case you will need to keep the ceramic media. If you decide to change your mind then you can quite easily take that out and just put a small internal filter in there with whatever substrate you want. Another problem is surface area, the Biorbs especially have very little for the size that they are and that may causep problems. Finally, if you do keep the normal filter then every time you change the filter you will find that you will have to dismantle most of your tank to get the bits out. Trust me, this gets very tedious! As for the crabs, I have no clue but they sound pretty cool! In my rather badly overstocked Biube (35l so slightly bigger than yours) I have:

2 male platy
6 Cardinal tetra
4 guppies 3 guppies
3 Crystal red shrimp
1 Zebra nerite snail
1 assasin snail

I just lost a guppy today as it jumped out of the tank and the fish got her :rip: hence why I have 3.

did you mean the cat got it? ah rest in peace little fella. the crabs are fairly new to the trade i think ill do some research on them this weekend. i have it running fishless at the mo and its really loud! sounds like a cauldron bubbling away! i bought a new air stine for it today but its still noisy and quite fierce water movement. is this normal? i also have the rocks around the edge so i can get to the filter easily. is it no good like this, should they be covering that middle part? i quite like the biubes (are they the rectangle ones) expensive tho arent they!? ... think my living room could do with one...

Thats the "life" range. They look nice, but again suffer same problems listed above. Avoid :)

Lol yea I meant the cat got her! The bubbles can be rather ferocoius so i would advise buying an adjustable air pump so that you can turn down the flow when need be. If you can't afford one at the mo I would suggest that you raise the water level as high as you can. If you have the LED lights then you should get the water to be practically toucing it. The rocks should be fine in any position as long as they don't completely cover the bottom (even small gaps will be fine). When you first put in the airstones they can really be quite powerful, but over time they will clog up until you have to replace them. My water is so hard I have to replace mine every 5 months!
